The Jasad Heir: A Compelling Fantasy
|
The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem tells the story of the last heir to a fallen magical kingdom. After the destruction of Jasad, the neighboring kingdoms continue persecuting Jasadi people that have escaped to their lands. Little do they know, the Jasad Heir had survived. Sylvia has been living in a small village in the kingdom of Nizahl, pretending to be an ordinary scholar, keeping her past a secret. When the Nizahlan prince, Arin discovers her Jasadi identity and magical abilities, he decides to use her for his benefit in the upcoming Nizhalan Trials, a brutal competition used to select the next commander of the army. If Sylvia wins the Trials, Arin can use her to lure out a Jasadi rebel group he fears is trying to reestablish the kingdom of Jasad. While preparing for the Trials, Sylvia has to learn to control the magic she was never taught to use. She also has to hide her royal identity from Arin, who she spends most of her days training with. This book had an engaging plot that continues in the second novel of the Scorched Throne duology, The Jasad Crown. I loved how the history of Sylvia’s past was slowly revealed throughout the story. I rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars. If you enjoy fantasy books filled with politics, magic, and challenges, I definitely recommend checking out The Jasad Heir. Helen Mathew November 2, 2025 |
